Constitution for the Council for Social Justice

Organization Introductions

Constitution:

The Council for Social Justice exists to:

- Facilitate communication between social justice minded organizations on Truman’s campus

- Encourage Truman students and faculty to become involved in our organizations

- Promote equality locally, nationally, and globally

- Raise awareness on Truman’s campus and in the Kirksville community on social and global issues

- Create a holistic approach to social justice and equality by involving multiple disciplines and fostering an attitude of openness.

Meetings will adhere to the following schedule:

This schedule may be modified according to the discretion of the group.

At the beginning of each semester, in order to encourage cooperation between organizations, a project will be selected for all Council members to work on together.

Different organizations will take turns facilitating the Council by semester. The organization will choose a representative to act as the facilitator of the Council.

Fall 2010: Alex Senger

Spring 2011: Connor Sexton

Rotation Schedule: (If a representative is not available from the next organization in the rotation, the organization following it will assume leadership.)

It is the responsibility of all involved organizations to have at least one representative at meetings.

If there is lack of direct leadership for more than one semester, any member may take on the facilitator’s role and continue.


Organizations will be invited to join the Council at the discretion of involved members.

Exciting Updates!

First, Announcements:
BOB is hosting a Culture show called Sideshow BOB. Its purpose is to bring any medium of art to a live audience April 22: 8-midnight in the SUB Activities Room. The theme is What is Woman. There is a $2 entry fee and all money will be donated to Victim Support Services

Next Semester- We discussed a lot of things for next semester. Here is the outline:

Alex from Students for Social Change will be facilitating next semester, Connor from Globe Med will take over in the Spring

Updates!

Thanks to everyone for another successful meeting last night! Here's a brief update:

Goals and upcoming events by group:

ECO is working on petitioning to get locally grown foods into Truman's cafeterias. Support them by signing a petition in dining halls.

Communiveristy Garden- $1000 worth of seeds has been donated! They are looking for help in designing and planting. Anybody is welcome to help out. They are also working on publicizing a new compost facility at the Garden.

GlobeMed will hold a meeting Monday Feb. 8th at 8:00 PM in MG 1090 to talk about their upcoming benefit concert Stand with Haiti. Stand with Haiti will be on February 19th at 8 PM with a potluck before the concert at 5:00 PM.

The Women's Resource Center is hosting V-Week from the 8th-12th with the Vagina Monologues as a finale. Check their website listed on the side of the blog for more details.

Amnesty International will be hosting 2-3 campaigns over the semester focusing on South East Asia, LGBT issues, and Afghanistan.
